Presented by Matt Pope, Senior Program Director of RAISEup Texas at E3 Alliance; Dr. Mike Hock, Director at the Center for Research on Learning, University of Kansas; and  Elizabeth Anderson, Principal at Hutto Middle School, Hutto ISD at the 2016 Annual Conference for Middle Level Education (AMLE).
Dr. Mike Hock, Director of Center for Research on Learning at the University of Kansas ,  presented the importance of literacy instruction in the middle grades while also highlighting RAISEup Texas, a collaborative effort to transform middle school teaching and learning. It is changing how middle school students learn and meet high standards for college and career-readiness by implementing instructional strategies, focused on literacy, in every subject and every classroom. The presenters detailed the compelling data from the demonstration project, where struggling students had ten times as many point gains compared to their nationally-normed peers from across the country. The expansion of RAISEup is currently implemented and will potentially impact 28,000 students.
