E3 Alliance Duo of Heather Salaz and Rodrigo Lopez to lead attendees on instruction for multilingual advancement of emergent bilingual learners

Wednesday, January 21, 2025 – Austin, TexasEducation Service Center Region 13 Conference on Instruction for Multilingual Advancement (CIMA) Emergent Bilingual Learners Conference is set to return on Friday, January 23, 2025, at Region 13. Staff designed the highly anticipated conference for educators teaching emergent bilingual students in Bilingual and English as a Second Language (ESL) programs. 

E3’s Heather Salaz, Director of Strong Foundations and Rodrigo Lopez, Director of Data Analysis, will co-present during session two on “Data Driving Action: Emergent Bilingual Student Success.” They crafted their session for administrators, but anyone can attend. 

“Our presentation is part of the ongoing collaboration between E3, Region 13, and the Central Texas school districts,” said Salaz. “We will continue to share data and research regarding Central Texas emergent bilingual students and gather input and guidance for future research and data of interest to increase success for emergent bilingual students.” 

The conference will bring together a dynamic group of keynote and guest speakers, as well as experienced teachers and experts in the field. Attendees can expect to engage in interactive sessions, workshops, and discussions that provide actionable strategies and insights to enhance language acquisition and learning outcomes for emergent bilingual students. 

This year’s gathering promises to be an engaging and informative event, with a range of topics and presentations catering to the diverse needs of educators working with emergent bilingual students. Some of the key themes and sessions include: 

  • Beyond the Blueprint: Designing Best Practices for Newcomer Students, Administrators, Instructional Coaches, and Secondary Classroom Teachers.   
  • Boosting Linguistic Supports in the CBLI Classroom.   
  • Collaborating with Families and Communities to Promote Language Development.   
  • Emergent Bilingual Strategic Plan Update: Senate Bill 560.   
  • Title III & the TXEL Portal – Linking Leaders to Guidance and Resources.   

“The data that we will highlight for our session will look at emergent bilingual students’ access to advanced coursework, Career and Technology Education, and dual credit, as well as postsecondary enrollment,” Heather explained. “This data is important in showing outcomes for bilingual students, particularly regarding workforce attainment.”  

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with esteemed keynote speakers, network with colleagues, and participate in interactive workshops. By the end of the day, participants will be equipped with actionable strategies and insights to improve learning outcomes for all students acquiring languages. 

“Our goal is to provide a supportive and inclusive environment where educators can collaborate, learn, and grow, ultimately leading to improved learning outcomes for all students acquiring languages,” echoed Salaz.
