E3 Alliance champions change during 89th Texas Legislature

As the session ends, we reflect on the progress made toward a stronger and fairer public school system in Texas. We’re thankful for our partners and their steady support, ideas, and advocacy.

We entered the session with a clear plan focused on:

  • Raising the Basic Allotment to provide more stable school funding
  • Improving teacher pay and training standards
  • Expanding access to early learning and reading programs
  • Using data to make sure resources are shared fairly and schools stay on track
  • Banning student cell phone use in public schools

House Bill 2, a major $8.5 billion school funding bill, supports many of these goals. It includes:

  • Teacher raises—up to $8,000 in some districts—to help schools keep and hire great teachers.
  • More funding for early childhood, special education, and job training programs.
  • Limits on uncertified teachers in key subjects.
  • The first Basic Allotment increase since 2019.

This bill is a big step forward, and we appreciate the lawmakers who helped pass it. Still, we know it doesn’t cover everything our schools need. Many of our partners continue to call for stronger, long-term funding solutions.

We’re proud of the progress and ready to keep working together for what’s next.
