Entering school ready for kindergarten is one of the strongest predictors of student success, even four years after enrollment. Central Texas students who enter school kindergarten ready are 4.5 to 5 times more likely to pass the 3rd grade STAAR tests than students who do not enter kindergarten ready. Kindergarten readiness is a stronger predictor of student success than those characteristics we know to be strongly linked to test scores, including income status and English Learner (EL) status. English Learners and non-low-income students are about 2 times more likely to pass the 3rd grade STAAR than their non-EL and low-income peers respectively.
