Students taking advanced math pathways including Algebra I in 8th grade are better positioned to succeed in 2-year & 4-year postsecondary degrees, especially STEM degrees. English language learners (ELLs) traditionally have not been represented as well as other students in advanced math pathways. Central Texas ELLs are taking Algebra I in 8th grade at a higher rate than the state overall and every other region in the state.
