Karl Nichols, Vice President for Investor Relations at E3 Alliance

Austin, TX —Wednesday, October 16, 2024 – E3 Alliance’s Vice President for Investor Relations, Karl Nichols, will present at the Grantmakers for Education conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, alongside Jennifer Saenz from StriveTogether and Alicia Westcot of Leander Independent School District.

Their session titled “Equalizing the Equation: Transforming Math Education in Texas through Policy and Equity” will address disparities in advanced math opportunities. E3 Alliance’s strategies have reduced the equity gap between high-performing Black and White students in Central Texas by over 90% in seven years.

“As educators and advocates committed to equity in education, we understand that math is not just about numbers; it’s about opportunity,” said Nichols. “During our session, ‘Equalizing the Equation: Transforming Math Education in Texas through Policy and Equity,’ we will explore bold strategies that empower all students to succeed in mathematics. By reshaping policies and prioritizing equitable access, we can ensure that every child in Texas receives a high-quality math education that unlocks their potential and prepares them for the future. Together, we can transform challenges into opportunities and create a math curriculum that truly serves every learner.”

In the 2021-22 school year, 52,099 more Texas 8th graders and approximately 2,331 more Central Texas 8th graders would have had access to advanced math pathways if the statewide policy, Senate Bill 2124, was already in place when these 8th graders were in 5th grade.”

This year’s conference theme, “Education for a Thriving Democracy: Truth, Discourse, and Transformation,” will delve into the crucial question: “What is the public promise of education in a vibrant and inclusive multiracial democracy?” At a time when democratic processes are routinely tested, defended, and changed, this is the central question that education philanthropy is poised to engage during the Grantmakers for Education 2024 Annual Conference.

Nichols, Saenz, and Westcot’s session aims to inspire meaningful dialogue and actionable strategies that promote educational equity and excellence in math, ensuring that all students are equipped with the skills necessary to excel in a competitive and innovative future.
