E3 Alliance's Kyle Seipp to Spotlight Latino Student Success in STEM at National Education Policy Conference

Seipp to share solutions on addressing barriers and building workforce pathways at NALEO Policy Institute in Los Angeles

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Austin, TX — May 6, 2025 E3 Alliance is pleased to announce that Kyle Seipp, Senior Director of Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness, will join policymakers and education leaders as a featured speaker at the upcoming National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Policy Institute on STEM Education & Preparing the Next Generation of Latino Innovators. The institute will take place May 6-7, 2025, at Arizona State University’s California Center in Los Angeles.

Hosted by NALEO, this prominent, two-day conference convenes Latino elected and appointed education policymakers from across the country to tackle urgent challenges in STEM education and workforce readiness affecting Latino students.

As part of their comprehensive and long-term vision strategy to ensure civic engagement and promote policies that advance engagement, NALEO is hosting this Policy Institute. It is focused on building the capacity of local leaders across the country to address challenges in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education and workforce readiness.

In support of its mission, NALEO has invited Seipp to share policy-to-practice implementation case studies from the Texas landscape. He will work alongside policymakers from across the country as they set ambitious goals to increase Latino student interest and participation in STEM majors and careers.

“Understanding the unique challenges and supports that influence student success in STEM is essential,” said Seipp. “By examining real-world case studies and effective strategies, we can create an environment where every student, especially those who are disengaged or face barriers, can thrive and pursue their passions in math and science.”

Latino students make up the second-largest population group in the U.S., yet they remain significantly underrepresented in STEM fields. Building an educational pipeline that supports their success in STEM is essential to national economic growth. The conference will explore policy solutions to increase Latino student engagement and long-term participation in STEM careers.

Seipp will take part in a key session titled “Understanding Student Barriers and Supports in STEM Education.” This session will explore why certain students excel in school, particularly in math and science, while others face difficulties. The session will showcase promising case studies demonstrating how school districts can support students who are disengaged or struggling academically, along with strategies to motivate Latino students to pursue STEM majors and careers.

Tanya Ortiz Franklin, Board Member of the Los Angeles Unified School District, will moderate the session and will include Dr. Michelle Pyo, Interim Executive Director and Managing Director of Partner Success in Los Angeles.

Key topics covered during the institute will include:

  •  The Urgent Need for a STEM Workforce
  • STEM Foundation Blocks: Math and Science Standards
  • Expanding the STEM Model: Deeper Integration of Computer Science in K-12 Education Systems
  • Supporting Educators in K-12 STEM Education
  • Importance of High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM)
  • School Boards Role in Ensuring Student Success
  • Understanding Student Barriers and Supports in STEM Education
  • STEM P3 Partnerships: Workforce Development Pathways and Opportunities

This convening is part of NALEO’s broader effort to equip Latino policymakers with the tools, data, and peer networks needed to improve student outcomes and ensure equitable access to high-quality education.
