A little more than half of all children in Central Texas are considered Kindergarten ready.  Now there’s an effort underway to figure out why, and to change that.
Central Texas has seen some success through a program called Ready, Set, K!, which E3 Alliance President Susan Dawson says puts tools in the hands of teachers to assess the whole child not just whether they can read the letter ‘A’, “Through those region wide assessments what we found is that attendance in Pre-K makes a huge difference.”
Dawson says they’ve gotten a 300 thousand dollar grant from the WK Kellogg Foundation to expand the Ready, Set, K! initiative.
