We followed a cohort of 9th graders from 2006 through four years of high school and into higher education.  To provide context (not on slide), 62 percent of the cohort enrolled in higher education at some point within 6 years after high school.  As noted on the slide, the vast majority of students who do enroll in higher education do so during the first year after high school. Specifically, 84% of enrollees first enrolled the year after high school (green bar).
The percent of enrollees who first enroll in later years is much smaller (purple bars).  Eight percent of enrollees waited a year and first enrolled in higher education in the second year after high school.  And another 8 percent enrolled for the first time in years 3 through 6 after high school.
